Introduction to Pathophsiology and Homeostasis

Pathophysiology and Homeostasis are the first topics from the PCI syllabusĀ  for Pharm D course in India. Pathophysiology is a convergences of Pathology with Physiology.

The word Pathology is derived from two Greek words Pathos – sufferings and logos means studies. Pathology is the scientific study of changes in structure and function of body in diseased state. or Pathology is a scientific study of the nature of diseaseĀ  and its causes, process, mechanism and effects.

Physiology is the branch of biology dealing with the functions and activities of living organisms and their parts, including all physical and chemical processes.

Pathophysiology include the study of disorganized functions, physiological changes and breakdown of homeostasis in disease state. or Pathophysiology is a study of disorganized physiological processes that cause result from, or are otherwise associated with a disease or injury.

knowledge and understanding of Pathology is essential for all all like pharmacist and registered medical practitioners because without its knowledge of scientific basis of disease and language used in Pathology Lab reports it’s difficult to understand the nature of disease the principle of pathophysiology is vital Bridge between initial learning face of preclinical Science and final phase of clinical subjects.
